Extra Life 2013: Why I Extra Life

Sometime around 1 AM Wednesday morning, my dog had a severe allergic reaction to some unknown substance. She looked like she was having a seizure at first, then later as though she had ingested large amounts of speed. It was incredibly scary.

But, despite being freaked out, I wasn't scared.

Because we immediately planned on bringing her to the 24 hour veterinary clinic and I knew she would be well taken care of by the doctors there. They would diagnose her, figure out the issue and prescribe appropriate measures of care. So, I wasn't scared. I was relieved. I was happy we had access to such great care for her.

That's why I do Extra Life. Not because of my dog, no, but because I want those who have children and those planning on having children to know that, even in the worst of circumstances, there's a place children can go to be taken care of, places specifically designed to fit their wants and needs.

Places like the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, for which I've raised over $2,000 the last few years. I know that, should the situation arise, they'll be available for me and my family in the coming years. And I want to do everything in my power to ensure that continues to be the case.

So, thank you all who supported my endeavor as I launch into this 25 hour marathon. I'm more than humbled at the great feedback and love I've received.
