Fourth Book: Doing it All Wrong

There I was, nearing the end of a revised first chapter, when I suddenly realized with an aching heart and heavy sigh that I was rewriting this Fourth Book all wrong.

I suppose I should be thankful for catching it so early and not only when I’d gleefully typed ‘The End,’ but even after just the one chapter I felt a basic need to simply carry on with this style, despite knowing it would need to be redone; I simply couldn’t accept that the tone didn’t match the book, that it was simply a byproduct of currently reading Theodore Dreiser’s The Genius and not my intentional vision.

Perhaps that’s why my previous books took so long to finalize?

Well, that pattern ends here. Though it means yet another draft of the first chapter, it also should (hopefully) make for a better story in the end.
